The Audiovisual Collection Sub-Group contains approximately 100 cubic feet of materials and 314 oversized or framed items documenting the life of Senator John H. Glenn, Jr. and the life of his wife, Anna “Annie” Castor Glenn. The materials date from 1896 to 2016, though the bulk of the materials date from 1959 to 1998. Included in the Audiovisual Collection are materials from the Glenn and Castor families, from John Glenn’s childhood in New Concord, Ohio, from Glenn’s military, space, and corporate careers, and from Glenn’s political career as a United States Senator from Ohio. Approximately one-third of the sub-group consists of photographs ranging from family snapshots to photographs taken by various official photographers for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the United States Senate. Other types of visual materials in the collection include original works of art, limited edition prints, cartoons, portraits, maps, and motion pictures in both film and video format. Sound recordings contained within the collection include cassette and reel-to-reel tapes, phonographic recordings, and compact disks. The remainder of the collection consists of certificates and awards given to John and Annie Glenn and various types of ephemera collected by them.
